Matthew J. Primm

Managing Attorney

Matt is a well-rounded attorney with exceptional client skills. His first job out of law school was as an associate with an insurance defense firm working in the areas of medical malpractice, contracts, general civil litigation, and collections. Later, Matt moved to a smaller firm that had a wide range of practice areas including adoptions, guardianships, trusts, family law, business litigation, and personal injury cases. While there, he developed an appellate practice taking on complex issues in all practice areas.

Most recently, Matt worked as an Assistant District Attorney for the Office of the District Attorney, District 12 (Rogers, Mayes, and Craig Counties) with most of his time spent working with the county government. He also gained valuable courtroom experience in both the civil and criminal arenas.

Matt showed his knack for litigation early in law school by earning numerous awards for moot court and mock trial competitions. He participated in three separate travel teams for national competitions (the National Native American Law Student Association Moot Court Competition, the National Health Law Moot Court Competition, and the National Trial Competition), making it to the knockout stages in two of the three. Matt also participated in ten moot court/mock trial competitions within TU's College of Law and placed in eight of them.

Prior to entering the legal profession, Matt worked almost a decade in Oklahoma tribal gaming. Closer to his college days in Stillwater, he worked in sports journalism covering various events and hosting a sports radio program. Matt continues to hold an interest in journalism and is currently exploring multiple podcasting options. In his spare time, he and his wife volunteer as fosters for animal rescues.

Kymberli J. M. Heckenkemper

Of Counsel

Kymberli is an experienced civil rights and personal injury attorney with exceptional analytical and communication skills and a relentless passion for justice and equity.

Before graduating with highest honors from the University of Tulsa College of Law, Kymberli earned several honors and awards for excellence, including the law school’s highest academic honor, the Order of the Curule Chair. She served on the executive editorial board of the Tulsa Law Review as Notes & Comments Editor, represented her class in the Student Bar Association House of Delegates, and served as the law school’s liaison to the University of Tulsa’s Advocacy Alliance—an interdisciplinary team aimed at preventing campus sexual assault. In addition, she worked as a law clerk at a renowned Oklahoma law firm, participated in legal clinics, and held externships with the Tulsa County Public Defender’s Office, the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Oklahoma, and the Honorable Robert E. Bacharach with the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Through all of these endeavors, Kymberli was able to refine her legal skills through hands-on, real-life experience even before becoming a licensed attorney.

Her first job as a lawyer was with a highly respected mid-size law firm that practiced in virtually every area of the law. There, she handled cases in a variety of areas of law, but what lit a fire in her heart was advocating for the underdog. Early in her career, Kymberli developed a penchant for representing plaintiffs in civil rights cases ranging from police brutality to discrimination and personal injury cases ranging from car wrecks to sexual assaults.

Before joining Haven Law Group, Kymberli worked for another civil rights firm in Tulsa, where she worked on multiple historic and high-profile cases, fighting for racial justice and her clients’ constitutional and civil rights. She has also been instrumental in securing millions of dollars in settlements for clients in civil rights cases against government entities like schools, law enforcement agencies, and jails.*

Kymberli was raised to treat everyone as she would want to be treated—with kindness, compassion, empathy, and dignity—and she believes these qualities are just as crucial to being a good lawyer as are intelligence, preparation, and zeal. As such, in addition to articulating strong legal arguments in court, she aims to connect with all of her clients on a personal level and to go the extra mile to help them navigate and fully understand complex legal issues and procedures, keeping in mind that they are likely going through some of the most difficult times of their lives.

At work, Kymberli focuses primarily on matters involving police brutality; unconstitutional jail conditions; unlawful searches and seizures; discrimination based on race, sex, and disability; sexual assault and harassment, and other personal injury matters.

In her free time, she volunteers for and serves on the Board of Directors of Swingin’ D Horse Rescue, a 501(c)(3) organization that rescues and rehabilitates horses at risk of slaughter and finds them loving homes. She also enjoys singing, painting, playing with her dogs, and Thundering Up in Loud City every chance she gets.

Counselor Hobbes

If you see this smiling face when you visit the office, you're in for a treat – and maybe a welcome bark.

Hobbes is a rescue who was adopted from Tulsa Animal Welfare when he was about three months old. From his first interactions with people and other animals, he has shown to be an excellent companion to all.

Hobbes has ongoing training to help him better acclimate to various settings. In addition to helping out in this office, he can sometimes be found providing support to those who need it in a nearby therapy office and being an overall good boy at the Mayes County courthouse.

He lives at home with his parents, rescue sister Callie, and three rescue cats. Occasionally, Hobbes will also have a foster sibling from CARE Rescue.
